Building Trust with Social Media
I have to say that if I had a quarter each time I heard someone demean anyone who brings up social media for business use I would be a rich man. These people that still haven’t figured it out will repeat history’s mistakes. Lets look at some dumb quotes very smart or successful industry people made in the past.
“There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.”
– Ken Olsen (President, Chairman, and founder of Digital Equipment Corporation) 1977
“Next Christmas the iPod will be dead, finished, gone, kaput.”
– Sir Alan Sugar, 2005 (Founder of the Electronics Company Amstrad)
“I predict the Internet will soon go spectacularly supernova and in 1996 catastrophically collapse.”
Robert Metcalfe (the inventor of Ethernet)1995
Although social media is used to do many silly immature things so are many others as well. People use cameras, cell phones, video recorders for dumb things but they are also used for business situations. SO where am I going with this?
Social media have given companies a way to directly connect with their customers and prospects. When you meet someone for the first time you introduce yourself and when you see them again you maybe speak some more and eventually you connect with that person and build trust. It is the exact same thing on social media.
Building relationships takes time just like in real life. It takes time to post relevant articles, answer people, network and put fires out. That needs to happen every day. People who dont see this as the equivalent of doing the same thing in person is in for a serious wake up call.
Anyone who isn’t using social media needs to stop it and get on the train. Secondly educate yourself to do it correctly or get someone to do it for you. Once the train leaves the station your going to blame everyone else when the person in the mirror is the one to blame. Just remember wherever you go, there you are.
Hope this helps.
