I get this question all the time and I know the confusion because you can blink and things in the tech world change that fast. What is the difference among all the social media sites? Well that a longer conversation but lets talk about two video platforms today. Instagram and Snapchat. First these are two apps that are made specifically for the mobile user. Instagram has some third party apps that allow you to post to Instagram fro your desktop but its made to go from the phone directly to your account. Snap Chat is just from the phone strait to your account.
Another difference is the capabilities between the live feed capabilities. Snap Chats live feed is more evolved than Instagram’s. This is based on my use of the apps but I have also had colleagues say they have experienced the same thing so that concurred with things Ive seen. Snap Chat is more for getting a thought out quickly because of how easily you can record and go directly to your audience. Instagram tells more of a story. Its much more relaxed in my opinion and you can take your time with this.
The last thing I was to talk about is the typical audience for both apps. Snap Chat has its core with younger audiences. According to Forbes, 37% of Snapchat’s users are between the ages of 18 and 24 and over 60% of U.S. 13- to 38-year-olds. Now compare that to Instagram which according to Business Insider over 90% of the 150 million people on Instagram are under the age of 35. This makes Instagram a great place to promote brand, products, and build report with your audience.
These platforms have their purpose in the market place until they get lazy, people lose interest or they get integrated to a company that purchase them. Hope this helps.
